However, the copy I ordered (see cover photo above) purportedly printed in America by an unnamed printing house in Texas, is maddeningly full of typographical errors, formatting issues, and there are some hints that the text was entered into manuscript form by On the Beach is a novel by Nevil Shute that was first published in 1957. Nevil Shute Norway was born in 1899 in Ealing, London. He studied Engineering Science at Balliol College, Oxford. Following his childhood passion, he entered the fledgling aircraft industry as an aeronautical engineer working to develop airships and, later, airplanes. Nevil Shute Norway (he dropped Norway when writing) must have been fond of the beach, because he invented a beach-based weapon of mass destruction called the Panjandrum.

He first glimpsed warfare in Dublin during the Easter uprising of 1916, in which he acted as a stretcher-bearer. His older brother was killed during World War I.
